Imagine the scene. A confirmed bachelor is out on a Friday night at the local nightclub listening to the music. Beer is in his hand, and he’s scanning the room of all the single females chatting away. He notices a teacher friend standing with someone who looked interesting to him. She spotted him, as well. The bachelor looked at her as she looked at him. He raised his mug to her and smiled. Just so happens her friend knew him and introduced her to him. The rest of the night was spent with the bachelor talking to this new person at the bar getting to know her. They danced to “I’m Easy” by Lionel Richie. Unfortunately for him, they went home separately.

Naturally, we wouldn’t have a story here if the two hadn’t exchanged phone numbers. Of course, they did. It wasn’t too long after the meeting at the nightclub that the bachelor called her. In doing so, he learned she was a teacher, as well. But he found out a lot more, too. She was only just separated from her husband and in the process of a divorce. Also, she was a mom! The bachelor had a firm philosophy about not dating a woman with kids. Too messy. However, he was so interested! He was determined to get to know her better.

For nearly six months the bachelor would call the teacher every week. They would talk for hours getting to know each other just through their conversations. One evening, he called her and asked what she had done that day. “Oh, just celebrating because my divorce was finalized today,” she replied. “I’ll be right over!” He announced. See, he made a promise he wouldn’t get involved with her while she was going through her divorce. He was a true gentleman!

The bachelor teacher made his appearance at her door having not seen her in six months! He made several discoveries that appealed to him. She had an adorable two-year old daughter, she could cook, made homemade candy, sewed, loved teaching, talked up a storm, and so much more. These were qualities he liked. Hmmm! Just maybe he would hang around more often.

Through their conversations they made a lot of discoveries. He knew her dad! Bachelor teacher was a ham radio operator and so was her dad. He knew her dad because he had purchased an antenna from him. Then he knew her former father-in-law because of ham radio. And when he found out that she had her novice license as a teenager, he was smitten.

After dating pretty seriously for a couple of years, they were a confirmed couple. He loved her daughter, she loved his family, and everything was hunky dory. One day, he said, “We can get married if you want to.” Holy moly! What a way to propose! Naturally, she turned him down. It had to be done properly.

The proposal finally came approximately two years after that. We never said they were in a hurry. He handed her a box of shoes which contained a brochure on sapphires and diamonds. At that point, he got on a knee and properly proposed. All tolled, the teachers dated for about five years or more before the wedding finally took place.

It’s been almost thirty-seven years now since the teachers have been married. They have had a happy marriage and put up with each other’s idiosyncrasies, moods, and any other little annoyances that came along. He obviously gave up being a confirmed bachelor. No more nightclubs, no more checking out new female staff at school, no more hanging out at the beach. He’s been a great dad and husband. In fact, there was even a bet at school whether he would even show up for his own wedding….. he did.

The teachers took single life and turned it around and made a great marriage. The both of them have been teacher of the year for their school district, share in a love of history and nature, and believe family is everything. She had to work on a jealousy issue in the beginning, but now that they are senior citizens, she is over that. She’s a neatnik, and he’s not. They work on that one. He’s loves Beatles, and she loves Motown. However, they find enough to dance and enjoy together.

Together they have sailed the Chesapeake in their own boat, cruised the roads on their motorcycle, and are currently tackling the art of being senior citizens. So, that’s the tale of two teachers. I’m sure you have a tale to tell, as well. Until then ……. have a tremendously terrific Tuesday, be safe, and I love you!
