I have the type of husband that worries over everything. He is also the kind who feels he needs to fix anything that is broken even if this includes a person. My daughter used to call him Mr. Fix-It as a little girl because he would repair or fix any doll or toy that got broken. And now….the granddaughter does the same exact thing. Mr. Fix-It.
I have been having some kind of heart issue since December. Naturally, my husband worries mostly because he feels badly, and secondly because he can’t fix it for me. One evening I felt a heaviness in my chest and my pulse was a bit high. My husband slapped his Apple Watch on my wrist to catch the beats per minute and any other data it provides. He said, “You know the new Apple Watch Series 6 has an EKG built in to it.” I didn’t think much about it, but before I knew it, he was out the door and gone in our car. I had an inkling of where he went since the Verizon store is only a half mile away. And…. sure enough. He came back home with an Apple Watch for me.
Now I am of the owner of a brand new Apple Watch so my husband can keep a record of my bpm, any ekg we take, or other health data. In his heart, he has helped to keep track of me, not fix me, but helps me. This watch has all kinds of features which are similar if not more advanced than a smart phone. I love it. There is a feature like most cell phones which records steps, stair steps, activity, and exercise. It will tell you to breathe deeply when you haven’t done so in a while. This is all good and well, but if you have a personality such as mine, you want to complete your steps, stand up when you should, or do some exercise. This is a good thing. I think.
The exercise feature is my down point. Other than enjoying yoga, I am not good at regular regimented exercise. I have rheumatoid arthritis, so this keeps me from performing many types of exercise. Walking is painful because my toe joints are fusing, I have knee replacements, and I just don’t like repetitive activities such a those with exercise. However, I made a big discovery! I get exercise credit if I dance. So, I put on the dance music in the kitchen and dance all around the our butcher block, the table, and the peninsula. I have the music blaring real loud and just let go. I can control how much foot motion I put into it, but my arms can fly, my patootie can wiggle, wiggle, and wiggle some more, and I’m having a good time. I don’t have to worry about the weather or the time of day, I can wear my pajamas, and since the music is coming through my hearing aids, I’m not bothering anyone with the type or loudness.
The doctors are concerned about my lungs for some reason, and this watch will take your oxygen levels when you feel out of breath. So, health wise, Dennis made a wise decision when he bought this watch for me. Since it acts like a smart phone, I can still text, make calls, see the weather, and do all the things I do on my cell phone without carting it around. It’s a real practical gift! Dennis likes practical.
So, while the watch is monitoring my health status, I am going to keep dancing around the kitchen in my pajamas. This is an Apple of a different color! So, let’s dance! I’m being monitored. A computer the size of a watch. As Isaac Asimov said, “I do not fear computers. I fear the lack of them.” You go, Isaac! They are our future. With that in mind, what does your computer do that mesmerizes you? What really neat things do you do with your computerized devices? Until then….have a stupendous Sunday, be safe, and I love you.
